Anna Shefelbine (Conductor)

… born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. Anna Shefelbine began her musical training at an early age, taking violin, piano and voice lessons. In 1995 she earned a B. A. in German Languages and Literature from Yale University, after which she moved to Berlin, Germany as a Fulbright Scholar. Her conducting studies were with Prof. Hans-Dieter Baum at the Hochschule für Musik »Hanns Eisler« Berlin from 1997 to 2003, during which time she conducted many orchestras, including the Berliner Symphoniker and the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester.

From 2002 to 2004, she participated in the Dirigentenforum, a program sponsored by Deutscher Musikrat to support young conductors. In 2003 to 2005, Ms. Shefelbine was a scholarship recipient of the Deutsche Bank Stiftung, participating in the »Akademie Musiktheater Heute«.

Anna Shefelbine has led several opera projects, including Mozart’s »Così fan tutte« and »La Périchole« by Offenbach. In the 2005/2006 season, she conducted concerts and opera productions across Germany, including in the Berlin Philharmonie and in the Leipzig Gewandhaus.
